Okatsune 230 Japanese Hedge Shears - Long Handled with Long Blades

£95.59
A world away from the shears you're probably used to where, despite your best efforts at sharpening them, you have to use an aggressive, hacking action to make any impact on your hedge. Okatsune shears will unlock the real pleasure of pruning/topiary.

"I didn’t know the real pleasure of pruning until I’d wielded Okatsune Shears."

Cleve West

A fraction of the weight of your old ones in the shed, Okatsune 230s have 200mm (8") blades and 500mm handles.
These are large hedge shears with long wooden handles and a long, razor-sharp blade.
The long handles will give you great reach, meaning you can cut up to 2.5 meters without needing a ladder. You'll also be able to cut large surfaces much faster, cut deep into the hedge, and deal with the lower sections without bending or kneeling.
The long handles and super sharp blades will allow you to cut through tough old branches whilst being equally suited to detailed work.
Hedge cutting refined to its most effortless.
Okatsune hedge shears are the undisputed number 1 in Japan, where they know a thing or two about pruning.
Hold them towards the ends of their handles and you'll experience their lovely balance and smooth cutting power. Your forearms will no longer be screaming for respite after a few minutes of clipping. Really a pleasure to use.
  • Izumo steel blades (the same as ancient Japanese swords) - truly razor sharp with a Rockwell hardness of 60 to 61.
  • Japanese Oak handles - absorb vibration
  • Total length: 780 mm
  • Handle length: 500 mm
  • Blade length: 200 mm
  • Only 1050g yet robust
  • Protective sheath included.

Ideal for topiary or hedge clipping on box, yew etc. or the Japanese garden (o-karikomi). Cut accurately with real ease.

How to look after your Okatsune Shears

The shears are made from few components, so there's not much you need to do to look after them. A few simple steps will keep them in great condition:

  • clean the blades after use
  • oil them with a light oil occasionally
  • store with blades closed to protect the blades (and you)
  • when they lose their edge, sharpen with a whetstone - the Okatsune Whetstone is designed for the job.

TIP - keep the blades clean with a weak (1:50) bleach/water mixture. We keep some in a old kitchen spray bottle. Wire wool works wonders at giving them a really good clean or to remove stubborn resin or sap build up.

Red and white handles make them harder to lose.

Simple, robust and razor sharp.
