Just what you need to keep your Okatsune secateurs and shears perfectly sharp.

Of course, you can use the whetstone to sharpen your other bladed tools.

Using the stone regularly will make keeping your tools sharp and efficient very easy.

How to use an Okatsune Whetstone

  • Wet the stone thoroughly and use smooth light strokes being careful to angle the stone correctly. Then use a light stroke of the stone on the underside of the blade to clean off the burr.
  • As with all sharpening stones, take care not to drop the stone as it's quite brittle.
  • Equally important as sharpening is keeping your bladed tools clean. We have an old kitchen spray bottle filled with a mix of water and bleach (50:1) and use it to spray tools when they are in use. It works well to stop the build-up of sap and helps reduce the risk of transferring disease.
  • If you have a stubborn build-up of sap or resin, nail varnish remover works well.
  • In the pictures, you'll find a diagram on how to sharpen your secateurs. Please note the bevel on the underside is tiny and only needs the lightest of strokes to maintain - it's so fine an angle that it's virtually flat.
