The Slava bronze garden hoe is a very old tool traditonally used for weeding crops like millet and buckwheat. Today it's mostly for carrots, strawberries and other fruit and vegetables where you wish to weed close to the plant. And really useful when you're crawling around in the flower borders.
The Slava is a pleasure to use. We use almost a scything motion, rather than push pull. It's good for getting into places you can't get to with a hoe or when you're on your hands and knees. Point the beak downwards to pull up deeper rooted weeds. Really more a bronze hoe than a sickle.
Much the same as a Cape Cod weeder really.
Very light, but tough. It slices easily through soil making work easy on the hands and wrists.
Once you have one, you'll wonder what you used before. I use one every day now. It tucks nicely into my back pocket when not in use.
